La mediación es un Sistema Alternativo de Resolución de
Conflictos a la via judicial, por el que se pretende que
las partes alcancen, por sí solas y con la ayuda del Mediador,
un acuerdo que solvente el conflicto existente entre las mismas.

Las características fundamentales de la mediación son la voluntariedad – queda a decisión de las partes someterse a mediación y de continuar con la misma-, la confidencialidad y la imparcialidad y neutralidad de la persona mediadora, que en ningún caso les impone nada sino que ayuda a superar sus discrepancias y a tomar decisiones consensuadas a través del diálogo.
